  we had to find another room after our flight back east was cancelled due to Sandy. We were greeted by John at the front desk who was helpful in several ways. He understood our situation and kept our reservation flexible, as we did not know how long we would need to be there. Also, my credit card was expiring at the end of october and we didnt know if we'd have to stay into november. He worked with us on that as well. The rooms were 100% spotless, modern, and comfortable. We were busy hiking and doing day trips but the resort is beautiful and if you like to unwind by the pool you'll love it. If i ever go back to the area, I know where I'm staying. Thanks to all the staff for being welcoming and accommodating.

• A gem of a surprise in the high desert

  You can't always tell from the pictures or star rating of a hotel if its going to be up to your expections, but this hotel was a great surprise. It seems as if lots of improvements had been made in the courtyard/pool area to provide a wonderful atmosphere for the backdrop of the red rocks. Other renovations are in the works in the lobby and restaurant, so we only wish we had scheduled our vacation a month later when those were complete. I would highly recommend the Amara as a place to rest your weary soul or to just make as a base camp to launch day trips from. Very convenient to the restaurants and other shopping.

  No one warned us that the pool and whirlpool would be completely out of commission and the grounds torn up and under construction. The view from the dining room included heavy equipment and torn up concrete. A dinner napkin and dirty silverware remained outside our room from before we checked in for two more days. This property needs to be updated with fresh paint and new carpeting. Although it is convenient to the Uptown Sedona, it's a very steep hill to the shops. Ask and the parking staff will give you a ride. There are better places to stay for the money. The terms 'resort' and 'spa' are a slight exageration.

  T his was a fantastic place to stay in the heart of the downtown sedona, clean and beautiful, i felt treasured. staff was excellent, knowledgeable and kind.
